UNILAG Researchers Shine with AFRETEC Grants for Digital Transformation
wo research groups from the University of Lagos have been awarded Inclusive Digital Transformation Seed Grants by the African Engineering and Technology Networks (AFRETEC). These two distinct collaborative research initiatives is set to begin in June 2024 and will last for one year.
Two research groups from the University of Lagos have been awarded Inclusive Digital Transformation Seed Grants by the African Engineering and Technology Networks (AFRETEC), in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University.
The first group, includes Prof. Immaculata Nwokoro, Dr. Mokolade Johnson, Dr. Oluyemi Akindeju, Dr. AbdulGaniyu Adelopo, and Dr. Tinuola Odugbemi. They also received funding for their project, “An Investigation of a Monitoring and Predicting Algorithm Model for Climate Change Related Diseases in African Urban Cities.”
The second research group led by Dr. AbdulGaniyu Adelopo, who worked on "Application of AI Techniques for Extracting Carbon from Landfill Waste for Renewable Energy.” received grant for their work.

The team headed by Prof. Nwokoro will collaborate with partners from the University of Lagos and the University of Nairobi, Kenya. Dr. Adelopo’s team will work alongside the University of Lagos, Carnegie Mellon University, Rwanda, and the University of Nairobi, Kenya. These two distinct collaborative research initiatives is set to begin in June 2024 and will last for one year.
