Another critic stated, “Paying N5,000 to a victim as punishment for sexual assault is a joke, an insult, and in fact an act of enablement of sexual crimes. If an academic institution would think N5,000 is an appropriate punishment for sexual assault, what is the future of Nigeria?”
The incident has ignited calls for stricter measures against sexual misconduct in UNILAG and other public universities. “It needs to end in UNILAG and other public universities. The assault, groping, negging, everything,” another concerned individual remarked.
The university administration has yet to respond to the growing demands for more severe consequences for sexual offenders on campus.
