UNILAG VC, Chinese Consulate Flag Off Renovation of Confucius Institute Block
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Folasade Ogunsola, and the Chinese Consulate General in Lagos, Ms. Yan Yuqing, initiated the renovation of the Confucius Institute Complex at UNILAG on June 19, 2024.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Folasade Ogunsola, and the Chinese Consulate General in Lagos, Ms. Yan Yuqing, officially launched the renovation of the Confucius Institute Complex on June 19, 2024. The ceremony, held at the Institute behind the JP Clark Building, marked the beginning of the refurbishment project aimed at enhancing the facility.

Professor Ogunsola emphasized that the project will create a more conducive environment for training in Chinese language and culture, thereby strengthening diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria. She expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and the Consulate for their longstanding partnership with UNILAG.

Ms. Yan Yuqing reaffirmed China's dedication to fostering strong ties with Nigeria and supporting the Confucius Institute's growth. Both Nigerian and Chinese Directors of the Confucius Institute, Professors Obi Iwuagwu and Zhao Hongling, praised the commitment of UNILAG and the Chinese Consulate to the Institute's development and the broader bilateral relationship.
The renovation will be carried out by the Sino Union Construction and Engineering Company, reflecting continued cooperation between the two nations.
