The Nigerian Girl Guides Association (NGGA) has appointed Professor Folasade Ogunsola, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), as a Matron of the Association. The brief ceremony took place on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, in the Vice-Chancellor’s office. National officers of the NGGA, led by Chief Commissioner Deaconess Rhoda Thomas, praised Prof. Ogunsola for her exemplary track record and her role as a beacon of hope for women.

In her address, Deaconess Rhoda Thomas highlighted that Prof. Ogunsola’s appointment is intended to inspire women and amplify the impact of the NGGA across UNILAG, Lagos State, and Nigeria.

Prof. Ogunsola expressed her gratitude for the honor, viewing it as a call to service. She emphasized the need to revive the ideals of the NGGA among younger generations to combat social discrimination, the erosion of social values, declining human interactions, and other societal issues.

She also advocated for the integration of NGGA values into Nigerian universities to ensure their entrenchment and impact among the youth.

The Nigerian Girl Guides Association, founded in 1919 as a girls-only organization, became a full member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1966. This historic appointment of Prof. Ogunsola aims to strengthen the Association’s influence and promote its values nationwide.
