UNILORIN Launches U-INSPIRE to Expand Skills Acquisition for Students

The University of Ilorin has introduced the U-INSPIRE initiative, a new program aimed at enhancing both undergraduate and postgraduate students' skills acquisition. The initiative will involve partnerships with 21 organizations to prepare students for the future world of work.

UNILORIN Launches U-INSPIRE to Expand Skills Acquisition for Students

The University of Ilorin has launched the Innovative Skills and Pioneering Entrepreneurship Award, or U-INSPIRE, a major expansion of its skills acquisition program. Introduced on October 4, 2024, at the university auditorium, U-INSPIRE aims to provide undergraduate and postgraduate students with practical skills and entrepreneurial knowledge, going beyond the existing GSC courses run by the Technical and Entrepreneurship Centre.

Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, Vice Chancellor of UNILORIN, emphasized the importance of equipping students with complementary skills to enhance their academic qualifications and prepare them for future job market demands. He highlighted the addition of an apprenticeship model, extending opportunities to postgraduate students in collaboration with 21 partner organizations.

Prof. Rasheed Gbenga Jimoh, Chairman of the U-INSPIRE Committee, described the initiative as a bridge between academia and industry, addressing skill gaps through internships, entrepreneurship, and mentorship. The program's success depends on continued stakeholder support.

The U-INSPIRE website was launched by Prof. Usman Adebimpe Raheem, Director of the Technical and Entrepreneurship Centre, facilitating interaction between the university, students, and partner organizations. Many courses will focus on digital skills, reflecting current industry needs.

Dr. Abdulkareem Ayopo Oloyede, Acting Director of the Centre for Research Development and In-House Training, outlined the program's objectives, including hands-on workplace experience and skills to start own businesses. Each course is certificate-based, with joint certification by the university and partner organizations.
