UNILORIN Master's Student Sues Woman for ₦2.5M Over Rejected Romantic Advances

A University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) master's student has sparked controversy by filing a ₦2.5 million lawsuit against a woman who rejected his romantic advances.
The woman, who shared her ordeal on social media, claimed that the student's actions were motivated by a desire for revenge after she declined his proposals.
According to her account, the two met while she was a 400-level student at Kwara State University, and the student expressed romantic interest. Despite her clear rejection, he continued to send her money and gifts, which she repeatedly declined.
The situation escalated when the student alleged that she had committed fraud and reported her to the police. He also claimed that she had deceived him into sending her money and gifts. However, chat records and evidence revealed that she had consistently rejected his advances and never requested or accepted money from him willingly.
The case was taken to the government house for mediation, where the student insisted that the woman either marry him or face him in court. He also claimed to have secured a Canadian visa for couples, listing her as his partner without her knowledge or consent.
The woman emphasized that she had been upfront about her disinterest from the start and had only agreed to be friends. The lawsuit has raised concerns about the misuse of the legal system to harass and intimidate individuals, particularly women, who reject romantic advances.
