The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has officially released 5,600 students for their industrial training for the 2023/2024 academic session. This significant move was announced by Prof. Rowland Monday Kayode, the Director of the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) Unit.

In an interview with the UNILORIN Bulletin, Prof. Kayode detailed that the students are dispersed across 18 states of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory. Specifically, over 1,400 students are undertaking their training in Kwara State, 600 in Lagos State, and 130 in the Federal Capital Territory. The remaining students are placed in various other states throughout the country.

Since July 2024, both Institutional and Departmental Coordinators have been actively supervising the students, with more than 70% receiving physical supervision. For those in areas with security challenges or who missed physical supervision, virtual facilities of the Postgraduate School are being utilized.

Prof. Kayode expressed satisfaction with the feedback from companies and industries where the students are engaged, noting that many have promised future employment to some of the trainees upon their graduation and completion of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program.
