UNIMAID Alumni Association FCT Chapter Issues Communique Following Congress Meeting

The University of Maiduguri Alumni Association (UNIMAID) FCT Chapter convened its General Congress on Saturday, 9th December 2023 at the Exhibition Pavilion in Abuja.

The meeting served as a platform for members to address pertinent issues and make critical resolutions aimed at fostering the association's progress and development.

Observations and Resolutions:

During the Congress, several observations were noted, leading to the adoption of key resolutions:

Sustaining Solar Power Project: The Congress pledged to sustain the Solar Power Project within the University of Maiduguri Campus and called for continued support from members to ensure its completion for the benefit of students and the university community.

Constitution of Electoral Committee: An electoral committee was constituted to oversee a credible election for the chapter as the current executive committee's tenure is set to expire. The committee has been mandated to conduct elections in adherence to the association's constitution.

Extension of Executive Committee's Tenure: The Congress extended the current EXCO's tenure for an additional two months until 29th February 2024, allowing adequate time for the electoral process without creating a leadership vacuum.

Rejection of Irregularities: The Congress unanimously condemned the irregularities witnessed at the Inaugural Annual General Meeting and the purported constitution amendment of the association by the National EXCO. It called for immediate intervention by relevant authorities to address the issues.

Appeal to the Board of Trustees: The Chairman of the Board of Trustees was urged to uphold the association's constitution and establish procedures for its growth and progress.

Action to Resolve Infractions: The EXCO was mandated to explore all possible avenues, including legal recourse, to address the illegal constitution amendment and other infractions observed at the inaugural National Annual General Meeting.

Financial Obligations: Members were urged to fulfill their financial obligations promptly, contributing to the association's financial stability and aiding in the successful execution of its programs and projects.

Recognition of EXCO's Efforts: The Congress commended the current Executive Committee for its unwavering dedication and noteworthy programs.
