UNINIGER Holds Unprecedented Orientation for New Students

The University on the Niger (UNINIGER) in Umunya, Anambra State, has successfully organized a two-day orientation course for its recently admitted students. This event comes in the wake of the formal commencement of academic and administrative activities at the institution. The groundbreaking orientation program unfolded at the Archbishop C. J. Patterson Auditorium in Onitsha, drawing widespread acclaim as the most unprecedented of its kind in the history of tertiary institutions in the South-East region of Nigeria.
A notable feature of the event was the distinguished presence of over 50 Anglican Bishops from the South-East, who offered prayers for the students. The prayers were led by the Most Rev Blessing Enyindah, the Dean of the Church of Nigeria, and the Most Rev David Onuoha, the Archbishop of the Owerri Ecclesiastical Province.

In a prior visit to the Iyi-Enu Mission Teaching Hospital, the take-off campus of UNINIGER, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 General Election, Peter Obi, expressed satisfaction with the progress and donated ₦10 million to the university for further development.
Bishop Owen Nwokolo, the Bishop on the Niger, received the donation and expressed gratitude for Obi’s generosity and his commitment to matters of God and education. He also extended prayers for Obi's career and family, acknowledging Obi's numerous philanthropic contributions to the diocese and humanity.

The two-day orientation program exposed the newly admitted students to various capacity-building, moral, and spiritual sessions conducted by renowned experts. Topics included 'Sexual Harassment, Examination Malpractice, and Cultism' presented by Prof. Uche Onwudiegwu and 'Positioning Yourself for a Successful Career' by guest speaker Larry Oguego.
Prof. Chinedu Nebo, the Vice Chancellor of the university, encouraged students in his opening speech not to relent in their various disciplines. In an interview after the ceremony, he highlighted the philosophical uniqueness underpinning the institution, emphasizing its faith-based and entrepreneurial nature, valuing character as a key component of education.
A few students interviewed during the program expressed satisfaction with their admission, noting the university's capability to address their moral and intellectual aspirations. They pledged to be hardworking throughout their scholarship and encouraged other youths aspiring to join the institution to apply with confidence.
The University on the Niger aims to produce responsible individuals with an entrepreneurial mindset and a strong character, differentiating itself from merely contributing to the job market. The orientation program marks a significant step in fostering a holistic educational experience for the newly admitted students.
