University of Ibadan Admits Only 9.4% of Applicants for 2025/2026 Academic Session

Highlighting the intense competition for placement at Nigeria’s premier university, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Kayode Adebowale, has revealed that only 4,430 students secured admission out of 46,916 applicants for the 2025/2026 academic session. 

Speaking on Wednesday during the formal matriculation ceremony for the new intake, Professor Adebowale noted that the admitted students represent less than 10% of those who sought entry into the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the new matriculants, emphasizing that their admission was a testament to their exceptional academic performance and resilience. He reminded them that being among the few selected from nearly 47,000 candidates is a significant privilege that comes with the responsibility of upholding the university's "First and Best" tradition.

During the ceremony, the university leadership urged the students to remain focused on their primary goal of academic excellence. The matriculation marks the official commencement of the academic journey for the 2025/2026 cohort across the university's various faculties and departments.
