University of Ibadan (UI) and Kabarak University, Kenya, are set to deepen their academic partnership, with both institutions exploring expanded areas of collaboration. This commitment was emphasized by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of UI, Professor Peter O. Olapegba, during a courtesy visit from Kabarak University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Henry Kiptiony Kiplangat.

Speaking on behalf of UI's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, Professor Olapegba highlighted that the institutional visits between the two universities are aimed at enhancing the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The current MoU includes provisions for joint research, faculty and student exchanges, academic credit transfers, collaborative degree programs, and conferences within the Faculty of Arts. Professor Olapegba proposed broadening the agreement to incorporate more departments and faculties, promoting cross-disciplinary collaboration between the institutions.

Professor Kiplangat expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that his visit coincided with UI’s 2024 Convocation ceremonies and the 76th Foundation Day celebration. He also shared his intention to reciprocate the previous visits of UI’s Vice-Chancellor and other principal officers to Kabarak University in Nakuru, Kenya.

The visit culminated in a public lecture delivered by Professor Kiplangat, titled "Transformational Leadership in Higher Education: Empowering Africa's Future." The lecture, which emphasized the role of leadership in advancing education and development in Africa, reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to fostering academic growth and scientific advancement across the continent.

Professor Kiplangat was accompanied by Kabarak University’s Dean, Professor Mellitus N. Wanyama, who had previously visited UI as part of the ongoing collaboration efforts. Both universities are optimistic that their partnership will continue to evolve, advancing knowledge and innovation in Africa.
