University of Ilorin Elevates 48 to Professorial Rank in Recent Promotion Exercise
The promotions, approved by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, SAN, were the result of the University's Appointments & Promotion Committee's request. Notably, the promotions were backdated to October 2022. The Vice-Chancellor clarified that the absence of a properly constituted Governing Council for the University necessitated the Minister's direct involvement in approving the promotions.
In a recent promotion exercise at the University of Ilorin, 48 academic staff members have been elevated to the prestigious rank of Professor, while 59 others have been promoted to the position of Associate Professor. The announcement was made by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), during a meeting held at the university's main auditorium.

The newly promoted Professors span various faculties, including Agriculture, Basic Clinical Sciences, Communication and Information Sciences, Arts, Clinical Sciences, Education, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Law, Management Sciences, Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, and Veterinary Medicine.
During the meeting with the newly promoted Professors, Vice-Chancellor Egbewole congratulated them on reaching the pinnacle of their academic careers. He expressed confidence in their competence and integrity while commending their dedication to the University's objectives through quality teaching, impactful research, and community services.

The Vice-Chancellor urged the new Professors to view their promotion as a call to greater responsibility and encouraged them to deliver their inaugural lectures within the next twelve months. The Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, informed the Professors that their promotions would be retrospective, effective from October 1, 2022.
In response, Prof. Jaiye Opadiji, speaking on behalf of the newly promoted Professors, expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and the university management for their unwavering support. He assured the authorities of the Professors' continued dedication to the institution's services and pledged to advance academic excellence at the University of Ilorin.
