The University of Mkar is proud to honor the memory of Isaiah Yisa Ikyô, a revered teacher and mentor whose selfless dedication and calm approach to life left an indelible mark on many. Prof. Barns Ikyo, reflecting on the life of the late Isaiah Yisa Ikyô, shared insights into the profound impact he had on education and community development.
Isaiah Yisa Ikyô, who graduated from Mkar College in 1972, furthered his studies at ATC Yola and the University of Jos, earning a degree in English Language. After completing his NYSC in Sokoto State, he embarked on a teaching career that saw him impart knowledge and values to countless youths, shaping them into decent and patriotic citizens.

His teaching journey began at LGA Primary School Gyemwase, Ukum, and continued at CCG Gboko in the late 70s. From 1984 to 2007, he held various positions as Principal or Vice Principal Admin at NKST Secondary School Hom Mbagen, NKST Secondary School Zaki Biam, NKST Secondary School Katsina Ala, Mkar College, NKST Girls Secondary School Uavande, and NKST Secondary School Mkar. His influence extended to the Institute of Christian Studies Mkar, which later became the University of Mkar, Mkar.

Beyond his professional achievements, Isaiah Yisa Ikyô was a devoted family man who supported his wife, enabling her to achieve higher education, including a PhD. Together, they raised six graduates, two of whom now hold PhDs, while the other four have MSc degrees. His commitment to education and family continues to inspire those who knew him.

In his honor, the family established Yisa Ikyô Millennium College Ugbema in 2009, a school that has produced numerous university graduates and remains a testament to his legacy. To further celebrate his contributions, the community has launched an annual football competition. The second edition of the Late Pa. Isaiah Yisa Ikyô Memorial Football Tournament will be held on July 26, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the NKST Secondary School Hom, Mbagen in Ugbema.
