UNN Alumna Dr. Nelson Nkalu Completes Second PhD in Economics at UK University
Dr. Nelson C. Nkalu, an alumna of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has recently completed his PhD in Economics at the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom. Dr. Nkalu highlighted the numerous professional certifications, awards, and affiliations that his PhD from Aberdeen has unlocked.
Dr. Nelson C. Nkalu, an alumna of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has recently completed his PhD in Economics at the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom.
Dr. Nkalu, who graduated from the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences at UNN, celebrated this significant achievement on social media.

In a Facebook post, he wrote, “PhD in Economics at the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom SUCCESSFULLY completed. Indeed, this is another quintessential dimension and milestone in my academic life and career following my first PhD in Economics (Development Economics) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.”
Dr. Nkalu highlighted the numerous professional certifications, awards, and affiliations that his PhD from Aberdeen has unlocked. These include memberships in the prestigious UK’s Royal Economic Society, the Scottish Economic Society, the UK’s Association of Heterodox Economics, the Associate Fellow of Higher Education Academy, a British Academy’s endorsement as an exceptional promise individual, a UK Global Talent Award, and many more.

“As a locally and internationally trained Macroeconomist and Senior Lecturer with a wider spectrum of expertise stemming from theory and practice, including over a decade of teaching, research experience and consultancy, the double PhDs in Economics will be handy in driving the socio-economic agenda of my local communities and across the globe,” he stated.
Dr. Nkalu expressed his gratitude to his wife, Rita Nelson, for her overwhelming care and support, as well as to his family, friends, and mentors for their unwavering support. “I am thankful to the staff and management of the UNN, including the Economics Department, and the Faculty of the Social Sciences. I am grateful to my supervisory and mentorship team at the Business School, University of Aberdeen for all the support. I can’t forget to appreciate the support of the Nigerian, Scottish, and British governments throughout the PhD journey,” he added.
