The House of Representatives of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) at the University of Nigeria has announced the commencement of a structured petition system aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability within student leadership.
In a notice issued to the student community, the House stated that it will now receive formal complaints and petitions from students and student groups regarding the conduct of elected or appointed SUG officials.
The initiative, according to the House, is designed to reinforce its mandate as the representative voice of students and ensure that issues of misconduct, abuse of office, or grievances are properly documented and reviewed.
Students—referred to within the notice as “Lions and Lionesses”—are required to submit petitions in written form, accompanied by any available supporting evidence such as documents or relevant proof to substantiate their claims.

All submissions are to be directed to the Office of the Clerk of the House, Hon. Chukwukelu Jennifer E., via the designated contact line provided in the notice.
The House confirmed that all petitions received will be formally reviewed and deliberated upon during its upcoming plenary session scheduled for April 4, 2026, where appropriate actions are expected to be determined.
The leadership of the House, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Okpara Stanley N., reiterated its commitment to fairness, due process, and responsible representation, noting that the new framework is intended to improve internal accountability mechanisms within student governance structures.
The move signals a more institutionalized approach to student oversight, with emphasis on documentation, evidence-based review, and structured legislative procedures within the SUG framework.
