UNN Mourns Economics Student Killed in Road Crash En Route Davido’s Concert

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of one of its students, Nwankwo Chukwuebuka Chrisantus, a 300-level student in the Department of Economics, who lost his life in a fatal accident along the Opi–Nsukka Road on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

In a statement issued by the Acting Public Relations Officer of UNN, Inya Egwu, the university confirmed that the tragic incident involved ten of its students who were traveling to Enugu to attend a music concert organized by Nigerian artiste David Adeleke (Davido).

“The Management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, received with deep sorrow the tragic news of a road accident involving ten of our students on the night of Saturday, November 1, 2025, along the Opi–Nsukka Road. The students were reportedly on their way to Enugu to attend a music concert when the unfortunate incident occurred,” the statement read.

According to Egwu, Chrisantus died on the spot, while other students sustained varying degrees of injury and were rushed to Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka, for treatment. Some have since been discharged, while others with more serious injuries remain hospitalized.

The University Management and the entire UNN community commiserated with the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, praying for the repose of his soul and for the full recovery of the injured students.

Egwu added that the incident was a painful reminder of the need for students to exercise caution while traveling. The university advised all students to avoid unnecessary or night journeys and to always seek official permission before embarking on trips outside the campus.
