VC Abu Kasim Adamu Inaugurates ₦35 Million Research Equipment at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University
Professor Abu Kasim Adamu inaugurates high-impact research equipment and consumables worth ₦35 million, reaffirming IBBUL's commitment to advancing research.
The Vice Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), Professor Abu Kasim Adamu, has inaugurated high-impact research equipment and consumables valued at thirty-five million naira. The event, held at the Center for Applied Sciences and Technology Research (CASTER), underscored the University's commitment to advancing research and innovation.
In his address, Professor Adamu praised Dr. Hussaini Majiya, the recipient of the research grant, for his dedication in securing the funds. He encouraged Dr. Majiya to continue his efforts and aim for even larger grants in the future. "Dr. Majiya has set a commendable example of what is achievable with determination and excellence in research," said Professor Adamu. "I urge all our researchers to follow his lead and strive to attract more high-impact grants."
The Vice Chancellor reaffirmed IBBUL's commitment to supporting its researchers and scientists, emphasizing the importance of high-impact research grants in enhancing the University’s reputation on both national and international stages. “Our commitment to supporting research is unwavering. High-impact research is crucial to our University’s growth and societal contribution,” he added.
Professor Nuhu George Obaje, Coordinating Director of Research and Development, through his Deputy Dr. Majiya, expressed gratitude for the University Management's ongoing support. He highlighted that such support had led to significant achievements, including winning the prestigious UNESCO and Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) research grant. He called on other researchers to remain steadfast and work towards securing more grants.
Professor Folorunsho Alimi Lawal, Director of CASTER, explained that the Centre coordinates all research activities at the University, including postgraduate research and National Research Fund (NRF) grants workshops. He emphasized that CASTER is home to twenty research groups across key faculties and manages several research grants. Professor Lawal also announced that Dr. Majiya would conduct a "step-down" workshop to guide other researchers in obtaining similar grants.
Dr. Hussaini Majiya, who won the grant, thanked the University Management for its support, which he credited as a key factor in his success. He detailed that the grant funds were used to procure sophisticated research equipment and sponsor five postgraduate students. Dr. Majiya promised to continue winning high-value grants and share his knowledge through the upcoming workshop.
Registrar Alhaji Idris Saleh Kusherki expressed gratitude for the Research Centre's achievements, noting the increased global visibility and competitiveness of the University. He reiterated the Management’s commitment to supporting scientific research that brings recognition to the Institution.
The newly commissioned equipment includes advanced tools such as the Rotavapour R-100, F-100 Recirculating Chiller, Vacuum Pump V-100, Interface I-100, Automated Colony Counter Acolyte 3HD, and a Large-capacity Shaker Incubator. These additions are expected to enhance IBBUL's research capabilities and establish it as a leading research institution in Nigeria and beyond.
