Veritas University Triumphs at Commonwealth Debate Championship in Kigali

Veritas University, Bwari-Abuja, has emerged victorious at the inaugural Commonwealth Universities Debating Championship held in Kigali, Rwanda, surpassing over 100 other universities.

Ben. Agande, the Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications of the University, announced this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, expressing the university's excitement over the exceptional performance of its students. He noted that this victory adds to the numerous international accolades previously achieved by the University.

Agande highlighted Veritas University's previous triumphs, including winning the African Telecommunications Union Digital Innovation Challenge in Nairobi, Kenya, in February 2024, and emerging victorious at the Pan-African Universities Debate Championship held in Nairobi, Kenya, in December 2022.

Reacting to this recent achievement, the Vice Chancellor of Veritas University, Rev. Fr. Professor Hyacinth Ichoku, emphasized that this victory reaffirms the University's commitment to providing students with holistic education, combining discipline, academic excellence, and robust interpersonal skills development.

The Commonwealth Universities' Debating Championship (CUDC), according to the Commonwealth secretariat, aims to bring youth, particularly university students from Commonwealth member countries, together to discuss and exchange ideas on the recommendations of previous Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

The championship seeks to foster good interpersonal relationships among participating students, encourage policy involvement among young people, and shape Commonwealth youth into global citizens.
