Ayobami Suberu, the Branch Controller of the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) in Ogun State, has refuted claims that the results of some public school students were withheld due to the state’s indebtedness.
In a statement released by Lekan Adeniran, the Chief Press Secretary to the Ogun State governor, Suberu addressed the media on Tuesday, describing the report as “mischievous and unbalanced.” He emphasized that the Ogun State Government is not indebted to WAEC in any way.
Suberu clarified that the delay in releasing the results of the affected students was due to a technical hitch, which is currently being resolved. He assured that there is ongoing communication between the branch and the Head of the Test Administration Division of WAEC to address the issue promptly. Suberu promised that the results would be released before the close of work on Tuesday.
“The Ogun State Government is not owing WAEC a dime,” Suberu stated. He mentioned that a senior official from the Ogun State Ministry of Education had contacted him regarding the report, and he clarified that the claims of indebtedness were unfounded and unethical.
Suberu criticized the media for not seeking WAEC’s side of the story before publishing the report, calling it unethical journalism. He reiterated that the delay was purely due to a technical issue and that efforts were being made to resolve it swiftly.
