"Wear Your ID Card on Campus," UNICAL Advises as It Partially Shuts Down Ahead of Nationwide Protest

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) management has announced measures to ensure campus security and continuity of academic activities amidst the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1 to 10, 2024. To ensure easy identification and access to campus facilities, all staff and students are required to wear their ID cards while on campus.

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) management has announced measures to ensure campus security and continuity of academic activities amidst the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1 to 10, 2024

Following an interactive meeting between the university management and critical stakeholders/student leaders on Monday, July 29th, several decisions were reached to address the potential impact of the protest on campus.

UNICAL has declared the 1st and 2nd of August as lecture and examination-free days to allow students and staff to participate in the planned protest. However, the university will remain open for normal academic activities, and all gates except the main gate will be closed during these two days. There will also be restrictions on movement within the campus to maintain order and security.

To ensure easy identification and access to campus facilities, all staff and students are required to wear their ID cards while on campus. Additionally, the Medical Centre will remain open with all health workers and essential service providers on duty throughout the protest period to attend to any emergencies that may arise.

In a bid to maintain a peaceful academic environment, students are strongly advised not to participate in the protest or engage in any activities that may disrupt the normal functioning of the university. The management emphasizes the importance of prioritizing academic activities and urges students to avoid being influenced by external factors during this time.
