Young Nigerian Educator, Adefemi Adeola Adedunke, Clinches Teacher of the Year Award and £6.5 Million Training in the UK

Adefemi Adeola Adedunke, a dedicated educator at Keke Senior High School in Agege, Lagos, has secured the prestigious Teacher of the Year Award in the 9th edition of the 2023 Maltina Teacher of the Year competition. Her outstanding achievement comes with a substantial reward of ₦6.5 million and an all-expense-paid training program in the United Kingdom.

Adefemi Adeola, recognized for her exceptional contributions to education, received an immediate cash prize of ₦15 million and an additional ₦1 million annually. Furthermore, her school is set to benefit from a £6.5 million fund, which will be utilized to establish either a fully equipped computer laboratory or a six-classroom block in her honor.

Employing her background as a broadcaster and National Youth Service Corps member, Adeola introduced extracurricular activities, after-school classes, and competitions through her EVERY CHILD COUNTS campaign. Her innovative approach led to remarkable success, with her students winning 103 international, national, and state competitions in five years.

In addition to the Teacher of the Year accolade, Adeola was nominated for the Global Teacher Prize in 2022, recognizing her impact on students in underdeveloped areas. Noteworthy honors include the CreditDirect Outstanding Teacher of the Year, Junior Chamber International Outstanding Young Person in Nigeria Award, and Overall Best Teacher in Lagos State Education District 1.

Adeola is more than an exemplary teacher; she is a Fulbright fellow, a certified Microsoft Innovative Educator, and a distinguished judge for The Royal Commonwealth Essay Competition.
