Yunusa Tanko Confirms - Peter Obi Is Not Utilizing His Deceased Brother's Certificate
"Peter Obi Is Not Utilizing His Deceased Brother's Certificate," Yunusa Tanko said.
Yunusa Tanko, the Chief Spokesman for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization, has firmly denied the allegations suggesting that Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate, used his late brother's university certificate.
In a statement released on Monday, October 16, 2023, in Abuja, Tanko dismissed the claims as "comedy from hell" and emphasized that Peter Obi and his deceased brother pursued different courses at the University of Nigeria (UNN).
The allegations of academic discrepancies in Peter Obi's credentials were made by Abayomi Arabambi, the spokesman for the Labour Party faction. Arabambi made these allegations during an appearance on an AIT program on Thursday, October 12, 2023. He asserted that Obi's UNN certificate bore a different name from what was on his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.

These allegations emerged after Peter Obi called upon President Bola Tinubu to reintroduce himself to Nigerians. In response, Arabambi contended that it was unfair for Obi to criticize Tinubu when he himself had discrepancies in his academic records.
Yunusa Tanko, in defense of Peter Obi, referred to Arabambi as one of Tinubu's "lawless adventurers" hired to fabricate insults against Obi. He clarified that Peter Obi's suggestion to the President was a simple patriotic advisory, grounded in a belief in actions for national development.

Tanko emphasized, "Obi's most senior brother is alive. One of his senior brothers who died was in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN years ahead of Obi and read Computer Science, while Obi studied Philosophy."
Furthermore, Tanko labeled Lamidi Apapa, the factional leader of the Labour Party, as well as Arabambi, as "political hirelings and buccaneers" engaged in character assassination, aiming to tarnish the reputation of their presidential candidate. He made it clear that Apapa and Arabambi were no longer members of the Labour Party.
