On the premises of Government Science Secondary School in the Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory, tragedy struck when a 16-year-old boy, identified as Meshack Agaba, died of electrocution.

The incident occurred last Wednesday, as the deceased student was reportedly on his way to fetch water from a tap when he inadvertently stepped on an electric cable that had tripped off an electric pole within the school compound.

According to a parent who wished to remain anonymous, the electric pole and cable had been lying in the area before the incident, with no action taken by the school management. The parent disclosed that Agaba, while attempting to fetch water early in the morning, slipped on the slippery ground and accidentally stepped on the conductor, resulting in instant electrocution.

Furthermore, the parent criticized the school management's attempt to alter the narrative of the incident after involving the police, claiming that the boy had attempted to jump the fence when the cable fell on him. This version of events was contested by the parent, questioning the plausibility of such an action, particularly at that time of the day.

The Parent-Teacher Association's social media platform has reportedly been locked, prohibiting parents from discussing the incident. The police have confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway.

The school's vice principal, Mrs. Dogo Suzie, when contacted, urged journalists to visit the school premises to gather firsthand information and denied claims that the management had suggested the deceased student was attempting to jump the fence.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations were ongoing.
