23 UNILAG Students Benefit from Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation's Financial Support
Twenty-three students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have received financial aid from the Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on social welfare.
In a significant gesture of educational empowerment, twenty-three students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have received financial aid from the Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation, a non-governmental and non-profit organization dedicated to social welfare.
The beneficiaries, selected through an impartial and transparent process, were unveiled at a brief ceremony held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the Biodun Shobanjo Building, Department of Mass Communication, UNILAG. The event was attended by key university officials and representatives of the Foundation, highlighting the importance of the initiative in supporting students facing financial constraints.
Dignitaries present included the Chairman of the Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation Board, Professor Tajudeen Yusuf; Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Musa Adebayo Obalola; Deputy Dean I of Student Affairs, Professor (Mrs) Blessing Anyikwa; Deputy Dean II of Student Affairs, Dr. Adesanmi Mogbademu; and Principal Assistant Registrar of the Counseling Unit, Mrs. Janet Aregbesola.
In his address, Professor Musa Obalola expressed profound gratitude to the Foundation for its continuous support towards students. He reiterated the university’s commitment to fostering partnerships that alleviate financial burdens for students and their families, particularly in light of prevailing economic challenges.
Professor Tajudeen Yusuf, who also serves as an Imam at UNILAG, acknowledged the pivotal role of the institution’s Student Affairs Division in facilitating the financial aid. He reaffirmed the Foundation’s dedication to enhancing student welfare and contributing to the university community’s growth.
Similarly, the Executive Director of the Foundation and UNILAG alumnus, Prince Sulaiman Olagunju, emphasized the importance of giving back to society. He outlined the vision of the organization in fostering sustainable development, revealing that a total sum of Five Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N5,750,000) was disbursed to support the students.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss Faridah Oluwakemi Qowiyu, a 500-level Law student, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Foundation for the generous contribution. She described the support as a significant relief in their academic pursuits and an unforgettable gesture towards their future aspirations.
The financial aid initiative by the Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation stands as a testament to the power of philanthropy in shaping the educational journeys of students, reinforcing the importance of community support in higher education.
