Rebecca Inge, a 75-year-old woman from Raleigh, North Carolina, has realized her long-held dream of completing her university education 57 years after initially dropping out. She graduated from Shaw University in the United States, making history as the oldest graduate in her class and within the institution.

Rebecca began her college journey at Shaw University in 1965, where she worked in the college's cafeteria to support herself financially while pursuing her education. Despite facing challenges and having to put her dreams on hold after getting married and becoming a mother, she remained determined to achieve her academic goals.

Expressing her joy, Rebecca shared, "It feels wonderful to finally achieve a goal I have been wanting for so many years. It’s taken me over 50 years to finally get back to my school, Shaw University, the school I love."

Rebecca had initially aspired to attend medical school and become a surgeon, but life's responsibilities led her to temporarily abandon her academic pursuits. After working in various careers, including as a bank teller, in fire and safety prevention at Walt Disney World, and in real estate, she decided to return to Shaw University to fulfill her dream.

Her daughter, Marisa Ratliff Dunston, a retired U.S. military officer, spoke of Rebecca's sacrifices, stating, "She put her life on hold so that I could finish my 21 years, all of my education so that I could be successful today." Marisa, being Rebecca's only child, took the opportunity to support her mother as she resumed her education.

Rebecca faced challenges due to the significant gap in years but successfully completed her bachelor's degree in Religion and Philosophy. She expressed excitement about finally owning a degree, emphasizing the importance of pursuing happiness and staying engaged in life.
