The Abia State government, led by Governor Dr. Alex Otti, has commenced a significant educational infrastructure initiative with the reconstruction of classroom blocks across the state's 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs). This move is part of a broader effort to improve the learning environment in public schools and elevate educational standards.

Governor Otti, during a monthly media briefing at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Umuahia, announced the project's scope and objectives. The reconstruction effort aims to renovate a total of 13 schools in each LGA, including 10 primary schools and 3 secondary schools.

"We have started the reconstruction of 13 schools per Local Government," said Governor Otti. "We sat and checked what a school should look like, got experts involved, and went through the process of approval. Very soon, you will see massive work in the schools around your locality."

The Governor mentioned that the state of most public schools in Abia was not conducive to learning, hence the urgent need for reconstruction. The project involves bringing in experienced consultants in education to ensure the work aligns with modern standards.

In addition to the classroom reconstruction, Governor Otti outlined other measures his administration is taking to support teachers and improve education in the state. The retirement age for teachers has been increased from 60 to 65 years, and new packages are being introduced to make the teaching profession more attractive in Abia.

The Governor also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve healthcare and road infrastructure, indicating a broader strategy to enhance the quality of life for Abia's residents. The administration has begun reconstructing the Osisioma-Ekeakpara road and has completed maintenance on over 70 roads, with 20 more roads currently under construction across the state.

Governor Otti announced the establishment of the Abia State Security Advisory Council, set to be inaugurated next week. The Council will be chaired by former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika, indicating a strong focus on state security.

In a related development, the Governor announced the re-constitution of the Abia State Judicial Service Commission, with new appointments subject to confirmation by the Abia State House of Assembly. The Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko, stated that the commission's new members are expected to strengthen the state's judicial system.
