ABU Hosts Send-Off Ceremony for Somali Medical Interns

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has organized a send-off ceremony for the first batch of 23 Somali medical interns who have completed their one-year internship program at the institution's College of Medical Sciences.

The ceremony was attended by His Excellency, Jamal Barrow, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Nigeria, as the Special Guest of Honor.

The Ambassador described the occasion as a personal milestone for each of the interns and a proud moment for Somalia and Nigeria. He emphasized that the partnership between SIMAD University in Mogadishu and ABU reflects the growing ties between the two countries. Barrow expressed confidence that the interns would return to Somalia better prepared to serve their communities and contribute to the health sector.

The Vice-Chancellor of ABU, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, reiterated the university's commitment to assisting sister African institutions. He expressed gratitude to SIMAD University for choosing ABU for the medical training and emphasized that the university would follow up on the progress of the students upon their return to Somalia.

The Provost of the College of Medical Sciences, Prof. S. Shehu, described the training as the first of its kind and congratulated the interns on their successful completion. The interns will receive certificates of participation in all the programs they underwent.

The Director of the Directorate of Advancement and International Education, Prof. Sani Abba Aliyu, emphasized that the partnership aims to promote cooperation between African universities and contribute to a better-educated, stronger, and more united Africa.
