ABU Hosts Training on Next Generation Sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 Virus

A team of trainers and participants for the Application Training on Next Generation Sequencing of the SARS-CoV-2 Virus visited the Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Prof Adamu Ahmed.

The training, made possible through the acquisition of a Next-generation Sequencer under the TETFund Special Intervention Programme, aimed to build capacity for cutting-edge genomic techniques for viral pathogen surveillance and characterization.

The training was conducted by experts from High Tech Detection Systems and had participants from various universities, including Bayero University and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, as well as postgraduate students from ABU's Department of Biochemistry. The Provost of the College of Medical Sciences, Prof M S Shehu, expressed appreciation to the university leadership for its commitment to research, innovation, and capacity development.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ahmed, reiterated ABU's resolve to remain at the forefront of biomedical research. He encouraged collaboration between units and departments and urged participants to use their knowledge to conduct research that benefits the wider community.

The courtesy call was attended by senior university officials, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Prof Raymond B Bako and Prof Sanusi Rafindadi, and the Ag. Registrar, Dr Aliyu Dalha Kankia.
