ABUAD Begins Production of Immune Booster, Anti-Malaria Drugs

Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) has launched the production of three plant-based pharmaceutical products: Virucidine (an immune booster), Natucadine (an anti-aging supplement), and AB-Mal (an anti-malaria capsule).

Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) has commenced the manufacturing of plant-based pharmaceutical products aimed at boosting health outcomes in Nigeria. The university's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Smaranda Olarinde, made the announcement in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, while addressing journalists ahead of the institution's 12th convocation ceremony and 15th anniversary slated for October 21.

Prof. Olarinde disclosed that the university has successfully developed three drugs: Virucidine, an immune system booster syrup; Natucadine, an anti-aging herbal supplement; and AB-Mal, an anti-malaria capsule. She emphasized that the efficacy of the drugs had been clinically tested, with excellent results reported.

The Vice Chancellor revealed that the Bogo Research Centre at ABUAD was established to facilitate the production of the plant-based medications, which are free from chemical additives. "We are looking for partnership in the promotion and sale of these medications. This will necessitate more collaboration with us in the realm of research," Olarinde said.

She called on individuals and organizations to help introduce the new pharmaceutical products to the global market by forming partnerships to promote them.

Highlighting the institution's ongoing progress, the Vice Chancellor noted that ABUAD’s Multi-System Hospital had achieved a significant milestone, completing 18 kidney transplant surgeries with a 100 percent success rate.

Prof. Olarinde further announced that 1,662 graduates would participate in the upcoming convocation ceremony, including 177 post-graduate students, 161 medical students, and 22 from the ABUAD Business School. Out of these, 226 students will graduate with First Class honors, while 693 will receive Second Class Upper Division, and 350 will earn Second Class Lower Division.

In recognition of their contributions to society, honorary doctorate degrees will be awarded to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); renowned lawyer Mr. Damian Dodo (SAN); and the Founder of Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare. Prof. Olarinde explained that the recipients were carefully chosen following a thorough and merit-based selection process in line with the 2012 Keffi Declaration.
