Dr. Kolawole Ogundipe, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Afe Babalola University Multi-System Hospital (AMSH), expressed concern over the absence of functional federal roads and an airport in Ekiti State, citing the detrimental impact on healthcare accessibility. Speaking to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, Ogundipe underscored the challenges faced by the hospital and its founder, Chief Afe Babalola, in their efforts to curb medical tourism in Nigeria.

Ogundipe lamented that despite significant investments in healthcare infrastructure, the lack of adequate transportation infrastructure poses significant obstacles. He highlighted the inconvenience faced by patients and visitors due to the absence of a functional airport, forcing reliance on distant airports and confronting security risks on poorly maintained roads.
"The challenges we face here are numerous," stated Ogundipe, emphasizing the need for improved transportation facilities to facilitate healthcare delivery. He emphasized that a functional airport would alleviate the burden on patients and visitors, enhancing accessibility to quality healthcare services.

Despite the challenges, Ogundipe noted the hospital's commitment to serving patients from various countries, including the United Kingdom and Canada. However, he acknowledged the financial constraints faced by some patients, calling for government intervention to expand healthcare coverage and support medical expenses.
Ogundipe urged stakeholders to collaborate in addressing the infrastructural deficiencies, including the poor state of federal roads and the absence of a functional airport. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in resolving these challenges to enhance healthcare delivery in Ekiti State.
