ABU’s support for young athlete in world championship yields result

Ahmadu Bello University’s passion for supporting youths in sports for career development has yielded positive results as recorded recently.

Salisu Habibu, a young athlete with the vigour to develop his career in sports, has made the University proud, after securing the required support to participate in sports competitions. The athlete is a 200 Level student of Human Kinetics and Health Education, Faculty of Education, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He first made the University proud when he participated and won the World Championship in athletics for 800 and 1,500 metres race which took place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, in Benin City from 5th to 7th July, 2023. Habibu won in both the 800 and 1,500 metres races.

The young athlete also made a feat at the MTN Championship Season -2 that took place in Jos, the Plateau State capital, in April, 2024. He won the men’s 800m in the competition that lasted seven days – 16th – 22nd April, 2024.

These feats have turned out to be a great development that made Salisu Habibu, his Department, Coach, Solomon Achi of Sports office, the Vice-Chancellor and the entire University community proud.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, expressed appreciation and enjoined all lovers of sports in the University to key in and emulate the exemplary commitment and vigour for sportsmanship displayed by Salisu Habibu.
