Achievers University Expands Medical Programme After Securing MDCN Accreditation
Achievers University has received pre-clinical accreditation for its MBBS programme from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), along with approval to increase its medical student intake from 50 to 120 annually.
Achievers University has achieved a significant milestone in Nigeria’s higher education sector after securing pre-clinical accreditation for its Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
The approval also comes with authorization for the university to increase its annual admission quota for medical students from 50 to 120, a development expected to strengthen the institution’s role in training healthcare professionals in Nigeria.
The accreditation follows an extensive assessment conducted in April 2026 by an 11-member MDCN visitation team. The team evaluated the university’s College of Medicine based on national benchmarks for medical education, including infrastructure, staffing, laboratory facilities, governance systems, curriculum implementation, and clinical training frameworks.
In a letter signed by the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the MDCN, Prof. Fatima Kyari, the Council formally granted pre-clinical accreditation for the MBBS programme and approved the substantial increase in student intake.
The accreditation team, led by Deputy Registrar Dr. N. U. Nwakanma, also reviewed the university’s teaching facilities, diagnostic equipment, academic staffing structure, and clinical partnerships during the exercise.
Speaking on the development, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Achievers University, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, described the approval as a landmark achievement for the institution and a valuable contribution to Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
According to him, the accreditation reflects years of investment in infrastructure, academic systems, and personnel aimed at building a medical college that meets global standards. He added that the university currently has the capacity to admit more than 3,000 students across its 38 academic programmes.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oyesoji Aremu, said the increased admission quota demonstrates the Council’s confidence in the institution’s readiness to train more medical professionals capable of addressing modern healthcare challenges.

He also revealed that the university recently secured full accreditation for seven additional programmes presented for re-accreditation. These include medical laboratory science, civil and environmental engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, microbiology, criminology and security studies, and sociology.
University officials say the latest approvals reinforce the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, professional standards, and continuous improvement across its programmes.
