Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, has restated its uncompromising stance against drug abuse and other social vices, warning that any student found culpable will face immediate expulsion.

Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, has restated its uncompromising stance against drug abuse and other social vices, warning that any student found culpable will face immediate expulsion.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Professor Bode Ayorinde, delivered the warning during the University’s 19th Matriculation Ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session, held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at the Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Auditorium.

Professor Ayorinde made it clear that the University would not lower its standards under any circumstance, emphasizing that discipline remains non-negotiable at Achievers University.

“Achievers University has zero tolerance for drug use and abuse. If you are caught, you will be expelled. If you introduce or attempt to introduce drugs into the University, you will be expelled. If you see anyone in possession or using drugs and you do not report, you will also go,” he stated.

He urged students to report any attempt to lure them into drug use, stressing that drug abuse can abruptly destroy academic ambitions. He also warned against nudity and the circulation of nude images or videos, describing such acts as offences that attract immediate dismissal. Citing past incidents, he noted that the University has previously dismissed students for reckless conduct, including security-related threats on social media.

The Pro-Chancellor further emphasized equality before the law, stating that all students are subject to the same rules regardless of background. He listed offences that attract outright expulsion to include cultism, bullying, fighting, possession or use of narcotics, social media misuse, sexual harassment or assault, fraudulent activities, forgery, and same-sex practices, among others.

“It is not difficult to graduate from this University. Just keep the rules,” he added.

Earlier, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oyesoji Aremu, formally welcomed the matriculating students, describing the ceremony as the point at which they become bona fide members of the University community. He charged them to embrace discipline, responsibility, and hard work, noting that university education is not only about academics but also character and leadership development.

Professor Aremu warned strongly against cultism, examination malpractice, cybercrime, and drug abuse, describing drug use as a growing menace with severe academic, psychological, and health consequences.

“Drug abuse clouds the mind, destroys potential and can lead to academic failure, mental disorders, organ damage and even sudden death,” he warned.

He advised students to be cautious of unsolicited assistance and to seek medical attention only from the University Health Centre when unwell. Reassuring parents and guardians, he reaffirmed the University’s commitment to providing a safe, nurturing, and intellectually stimulating environment.

Highlights of the ceremony included a matriculation lecture titled “Your University, Your Network: Building Relationships and Opportunities”, delivered by alumna Ayobami Felix-Olaniyi, an academic procession, recognition of outstanding academic performance, administration of the matriculation oath, and cultural displays.

A total of 936 fresh students were formally admitted into Achievers University for the 2025/2026 academic session.
