ACU Vice-Chancellor Urges Staff to Cultivate Joy in Worship; Announces Retirement Tribute for University Visitor

The Vice-Chancellor, Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, Prof. Ebunoluwa Oduwole, has charged staff members to cultivate a heart of gladness whenever they are called to worship God.

Prof. Oduwole gave the admonition during the university’s Staff Fellowship held on Monday, April 13, 2026, on campus. Speaking before an assembly of staff, she paraphrased Psalm 122:1 - “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD” - and stressed that genuine joy accompanies service to the Lord.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation for the large turnout at the fellowship and called on staff to sustain the same spirit of enthusiasm in subsequent gatherings.

Prof. Oduwole also used the occasion to announce the Community Hymn Singing scheduled to honour the university’s Visitor, the Rt. Rev’d. Dr. Joseph Olatunji Akinfenwa, and his wife, Mrs. Comfort Akinfenwa on May 26, 2026, at the Cathedral of St. James the Great, Oke-Bola, Ibadan.

The Vice-Chancellor explained that the Community Hymn Singing is designed to celebrate the Visitor who is also the Bishop of Ibadan Diocese (Anglican Communion) for his lifelong service as he proceeds into retirement this May.

Delivering the exhortation earlier, Dr. Oluwaseyi Adedipe, a lecturer in the department of Accounting and Finance from the Faculty of Management Sciences, urged every Christian to know God’s will and practise it faithfully. He reminded believers to remain prepared for the second coming of Jesus Christ, emphasising that one’s name must be registered in heaven, and not only in the church’s membership roll.

Dr. Adedipe called on worshippers to embrace holiness and sanctification, strive to be where the Lord is, and live in a manner that reflects the pursuit of God’s glory.

The highlight point of the day was the felicitation of the Bursar, Dr. Ayodele Olusanwo by the congregation, whose birthday coincided with the day’s gathering.

The service ended with the final benediction pronounced by the University Chaplain, Ven. Alvan Ewuzie.
