Adamawa State-Owned Tertiary Institutions Suspend Indefinite Strike

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Academic and Non-Acadademic Staff Unions in Adamawa State-owned tertiary institutions has suspended its indefinite strike action, effective March 26, 2025. This decision was made to allow for peaceful negotiations with the government.

 

The strike, which began on March 11, 2025, was called to address issues such as the implementation of the Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS), career progression, and the appointment of principal officers from within the institutions .

The JAC, comprising various unions, including the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), had given the state government a 14-working-day ultimatum to address their demands.

With the suspension of the strike, academic activities are expected to resume in Adamawa State-owned tertiary institutions. The JAC's decision to suspend the strike is seen as a positive step towards resolving the outstanding issues through peaceful negotiations.
