Adamawa State University Achieves Major Breakthrough as NUC Approves College of Medical Sciences

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of a College of Medical Sciences at Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi, marking a major milestone in the state’s drive to strengthen healthcare education and service delivery.

‎The NUC assessment panel, led by Professor Auwal Abubakar, disclosed this while briefing the Adamawa State Government on its findings. The panel emphasized the need for adequate manpower to effectively run the 24 proposed departments of the college.

‎Responding, the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, noted that the plan to establish the College of Medical Sciences at ADSU, has long been in the pipeline. She assured the NUC team of the state government’s unwavering support toward the successful take-off of the institution.

‎Farauta reiterated that the health sector remains a top priority of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration, stressing the importance of collaboration in achieving sustainable healthcare development. She added that the establishment of the college would significantly enhance healthcare delivery for the people of Adamawa State and beyond.

‎Earlier, the NUC panel visited the Specialist Hospital in Mubi to assess its suitability for upgrade to a teaching hospital. The team also inspected facilities at Adamawa State University, where they expressed satisfaction with the available infrastructure and equipment.

‎The assessment visit followed a formal application by the university to establish a College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, with the panel noting that preparations are already at an advanced stage.

‎In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of ADSU, Professor Clement Augustine, expressed appreciation to Governor Fintiri for his sustained support, describing the approval as a long-awaited breakthrough for the institution and the state at large.
