The Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) is inviting applications for the position of Vice Chancellor following the vacancy created on April 1, 2024.
Established in 2017 and transformed into a federal institution in 2023, ADUN aims to advance education and research with a global perspective.
The ideal candidate should be a distinguished scholar with at least ten years of experience as a professor, possess strong academic leadership and administrative skills, and be capable of enhancing the university's academic status.
Applications must be submitted within four weeks, including detailed qualifications and a vision statement for the university's future.
NECESSARY INFORMATION
1. The Post of the Vice Chancellor of the Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN), Ibusa - Delta State, Nigeria, became vacant on 1st April, 2024. In accordance with the Provisions of the ADUN Act 2022 - Section 4, the Governing Council of the University has approved the commencement of the process of filling the vacancy. Consequently, applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position. Interested Candidates are requested to note the following while applying for the position.
THE UNIVERSITY
2. The University was established in 2017 by the Nigerian Navy and commenced full academic activities in the 2018/2019 academic session. In order to reposition the University for excellence in line with its mandate, the University was later transformed to a full-fledged conventional federal institution sequel to the assent to the ADUN Act 2022, on 8th February, 2023, by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
3. The Vision of the University is, “to be internationally recognized as a University with global perspective that meets the dynamic needs of society by educating leaders who shall embrace value creation for the growth of mankind”
4. The Mission of the University is, “to advance the frontiers of human knowledge by providing leadership in teaching and learning, research and service using cutting edge technologies to meet current educational demands in order to surmount the myriads of challenges facing humanity.”

RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POST OF VICE CHANCELLOR
6. The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Head of the University. He/she is the Chairman of the Senate, Congregation and member of the Governing Council.
The Vice-Chancellor shall among other duties:
a. Promote research, teaching, and maintain academic excellence.
b. Be responsible to Council for the day-to-day running of the affairs of the University as well as the maintenance of peace, law and order in the University.
c. Be competent at all times to advise Council on all matters affecting the policy, finance and administration of the University.
d. Regulate the admission of students, subject to the guidelines and procedure approved by the Senate and other statutory bodies.
e. Be responsible for staff and students discipline and welfare in the University.
The candidate should:
a. Be a distinguished scholar with outstanding academic and administrative records. He/she must be a proven manager of human and material resources.
b. Be a Professor of not less than ten (10) years standing and with the ability to provide academic and administrative leadership for the University.
c. Have held academic and administrative positions that are requisite to that of a Vice Chancellor of a leading University. Specifically, he/she must have held positions such as Head of Department, Director, Dean, Provost or Deputy Vice Chancellor.
d. Have a good understanding of the Vision and Mission of the University.
e. Be of a strong academic standing as evidenced by the publications of books and research in high impact journals.
f. Be able to attract research grants and complimentary funds from local and international agencies, and further uplift the academic status of the University.
g. Possess personal integrity in the management of funds and be able to deploy financial resources as appropriate within the context of the University’s Strategic Plan.
h. Demonstrate interpersonal and team building skills and possess the ability to build bridges between staff, students and members of the University Community and its stakeholders.
i. Have demonstrable abilities to establish and maintain partnerships with local, international, government and non-governmental agencies and organizations.
j. Be an individual who, judging from his/her track records, is likely to command the respect as well as the loyalty of members of staff and the University Community.
k. Be able to demonstrate the ability to attract, motivate and retain highly skilled and talented staff (teaching and non-teaching).
l. Be able to exhibit entrepreneurial drive and ability to attract extra statutory funds and mobilize other resources for the development of the University.
m. Have excellent written and spoken communication skills.
n. Be in a position to ensure the enforcement of the University’s laws and regulations.
o. Be information and technology proficient and be committed to its use as a management tool and its deployment in the University programmes and services.
p. Be in excellent physical and mental health;
q. Not be more than 65 years on assumption of duty.
r. Not be under any disciplinary procedure/investigation for any misconduct.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
a. The Vice Chancellor shall hold office for a single term of five (5) years and no more.
b. The remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to the post of Vice Chancellor in all Nigerian Federal Universities and as may be determined from time to time by the Government/Governing Council.
