Edo State University, Iyamho, marked its 10th Founder’s Day on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, with a ceremony dedicated to reflecting on a decade of academic development and institutional consolidation.

The event, held at the Aliko Dangote Auditorium, brought together senior academics, policymakers, and institutional stakeholders. The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Olusegun O. Akinyinka, formally opened the ceremony with remarks highlighting the university’s steady rise within Nigeria’s higher education system.
In his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor of Edo State University, Prof. Victor O. Adetimirin, described the institution’s progress as a product of sustained vision and strategic support. He credited the Edo State Government for its continued backing, noting that such commitment has been central to the university’s development trajectory.
A key highlight of the event was the keynote lecture delivered by the Vice-Chancellor of Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN), Prof. Christopher Bankole Ndubuisi Ogbogbo. Speaking on the theme, “Reinventing Academic Traditions in Nigerian Universities,” he called for deliberate internal reforms across higher education institutions as a prerequisite for meaningful advancement.
He argued that universities must strengthen internal systems and redefine academic culture if they are to remain relevant in a rapidly changing global environment. According to him, institutional progress must be driven from within, with a clear focus on both local responsiveness and global competitiveness.
Prof. Ogbogbo emphasized two core responsibilities for Nigerian universities: addressing immediate societal challenges within their host communities, and maintaining standards that position graduates and researchers for international relevance.

In recognition of his contribution to intellectual discourse and academic leadership, Edo State University conferred on him an Award of Excellence.
The ceremony concluded with renewed commitments from the university leadership to deepen innovation, strengthen institutional relevance, and sustain its position as a growing centre of higher education excellence in Nigeria.
