Five academic staff from AE-FUNAI have been recognized among the top 2% of scientists globally, highlighting the university's commitment to research excellence.

Five academic staff members of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI) have been honored among the top 2% scientists globally, as recognized by Elsevier and Stanford University, United Kingdom.

In data released on September 16, 2024, these scholars were listed among 233 scientists in Nigeria acknowledged for their exceptional research output and scholarly publications in Scopus. Elsevier, a renowned international publisher of scientific, technical, and medical literature, has been a leading figure in scholarly publishing since its founding in 1880.

Among the distinguished scholars, Dr. Ukwuaja Kingsley from the Department of Internal Medicine, College of Medical Sciences, ranked 25th in Nigeria and 43,008th worldwide, with a total of 162 papers published in Scopus. Prof. Okereke Chukwumerije from the Department of Political Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, was ranked 42nd in Nigeria and 63,614th globally, with 70 publications.

Additionally, Dr. Eieazu Chinedum O from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Physical Sciences, was ranked 66th in Nigeria and 105,352nd in the world with 68 papers. Dr. Onyeneke Robert Ugochukwu of the Department of Agriculture, Faculty of Agriculture, ranked 178th in Nigeria and 315,896th globally, with 51 publications. Lastly, Dr. Anadebe Valentine Chikaodili from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Physical Sciences, was ranked 215th in Nigeria and 504,117th worldwide with 41 papers.

In a statement, the Vice-Chancellor of AE-FUNAI, Prof. Sunday Elom, commended the remarkable research accomplishments of the five scholars, emphasizing that their achievements reflect the university's dedication to academic excellence. He noted that this recognition enhances AE-FUNAI's reputation as a serious public university in Nigeria and as an emerging academic brand on the global stage.
