The Vice-Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Prof. Sunday Elom has urged the university alumni to contribute to the development of the institution.
Myschoolnews reports Prof Elom gave the advice recently, during the inauguration of the first-elected executive of the Alumni Association of the University.
He noted that an alumnus of AEFUNAI is a graduate of the university, and charged the newly-elected executive to conduct themselves as role models and ambassadors of the university wherever they are, by abiding by the motto of Excellence and Integrity.
He added that graduates of AE-FUNAI are referred to as soaring eagles and as such, they should distinguish themselves in all ramifications.
The Vice-Chancellor maintained that the benefit of having an alumni association in a university is to establish a lasting and worthy relationship with graduates of such institution, and therefore urged them to maintain a close relationship with their alma mater, and to contribute to its development.
He further commended the election committee for conducting a free, fair and transparent election, and as well as congratulated the Excos for emerging as the first- elected alumni association executive of the university, while also assuring them of management’s support to see that their aims and objectives were met.
While delivering his inaugural speech, the President, AE-FUNAI Alumni Association, Mr. Victor Ngwoke, applauded the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elom for his selfless decision in conducting the first ever AE-FUNAI Alumni Association election, adding that it was a step in the right direction towards repositioning the association.
He also said, “as soaring eagles, a great responsibility has been placed on our shoulders and consequently requires a high level of commitment from all of us to drive our association forward”, stressing that they will not betray the mandate.
‘’Hold me responsible if I betray the mandate given to me’’, he said.
Ngwoke equally stated some challenges facing the association and solicited for management’s support in solving them, noting that they would as well engage some willing organizations, government agencies and individuals to achieve their goals.
Contributing, the University Bursar, Mr. Kingsley Onyekezie, advised them to be transparent in whatever they do, especially in the management of public funds.
