In his address, Prof. Usman underscored GAP’s mission to ensure the production of safe and nutritious food and non-food agricultural products, while addressing economic, social, and environmental sustainability. When applied to crop production, GAP is known as Good Agronomic Practices (GAgrPs), which he explained as responsible farming methods encompassing site selection, land preparation, harvesting, and handling.

Prof. Usman noted that GAgrPs promote environmentally sound and socially responsible farming, contributing to safer, healthier crop yields and higher profitability for farmers. He emphasized that with Nigeria’s population expected to double by 2050, the importance of sustainable crop production is paramount, offering solutions to food security and employment, particularly for the youth in agriculture.
