A total of 885 graduates from the Faculty of Engineering, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, were officially inducted as professional members of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) on Saturday, October 5, 2024. The ceremony took place at Maman Kontagora Square on ABU's Main Campus in Samaru, Zaria.

The Registrar of COREN, Prof. Adisa Ademola Bello, administered the oath of practice to the newly inducted engineers. The Vice-Chancellor of ABU, Prof. Kabiru Bala, represented by the Provost of the College of Medical Sciences, Prof. M.S. Shehu, congratulated the inductees and urged them to be resilient, God-fearing, and good ambassadors of the university.

During the event, COREN President, Prof. Sadiq Zubair Abubakar, highlighted upcoming changes in Nigerian engineering education aimed at meeting global standards. These include a mandatory internship for graduates before their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program and annual renewal of practicing licenses to enhance career opportunities.

Margaret Aina Oguntala, President of NSE, represented by Engr. Agee A. Agba, Zaria Branch Chairman, encouraged the graduates to uphold professionalism, dedication, and active participation in their field.

A guest lecture delivered by Engr. Ibrahim Abdullahi Maimaje, an ABU alumnus, emphasized the significance of professional licensing for career progression in engineering.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards and cash prizes to outstanding students, while several dignitaries, including the Vice-Chancellor, COREN President, and NSE President, were honored for their contributions to engineering education.
