Ahmadu Bello University’s NAPRI to Complete Kano Pasture Seed Multiplication Project
Initially scheduled for completion in September, the project was extended after a request from the Kano State Agricultural Development Project (KSADP).
The National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, is set to complete the 20-hectare pasture seed multiplication project for the Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project by December 2024. Initially scheduled for completion in September, the project was extended after a request from the Kano State Agricultural Development Project (KSADP).
The project, located in Dudduru, Ajingi local government area of Kano State, aims to address feed shortages for ruminant livestock and reduce farmer-herder conflicts by providing pasture seeds for grazing reserves.
Prof. Mohammed Rabiu Hassan, Executive Director of NAPRI, expressed appreciation to the Kano State government and Islamic Development Bank for supporting the initiative. He also thanked the Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Kabiru Bala, and other stakeholders for their cooperation in ensuring the project's success.
The project, which began in January 2021, involves land clearing, fencing, well construction, and the cultivation of various pasture species, including gamba, stylo, and napier.
