In the wake of the heartbreaking demise of a student, Ajayi Crowther University, the University administration declared a halt to all academic and social activities to mourn the passing of the deceased, adding that a candlelight vigil would be organized in his remembrance.

In the wake of the heartbreaking demise of a student, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State has declared a lecture-free week to mourn the tragic loss.

This follows the devastating death of a second-year student, Akro Jeffrey Chamuke of Ajayi Crowther University, who was allegedly beaten to death by a fellow student in the University campus. Reports indicate that the late Jeffrey was the offspring of Princess Antonia Emiko, the daughter of Olu Erejuwa II (1951-1986), and a niece of the incumbent Olu of Warri. He was also a first cousin of His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri Kingdom. This murder case has caused a lot of public outcry.

In light of this, the University administration declared a halt to all academic and social activities to mourn the passing of the deceased, adding that a candlelight vigil would be organized in his remembrance.

They made this known on their social media handle where they tweeted @official_acusa, “Ajayi Crowther University has declared a lecture-free week to mourn the passing of our student, AKRO Jeffery Chamuke. All events are suspended, academic and social. And a prayer and fasting session will be held from today till Friday in his honor”, it read.

The management further stated, “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our brother and fellow student, AKRO Jeffery Chamuke, at Ajayi Crowther University a few days ago. In honor of his memory, a candlelight vigil will be held by both students and the university’s management”.
