In a significant step toward expanding its academic portfolio, Ajayi Crowther University (ACU) on Monday, April 20, 2026, hosted resource verification teams from the National Universities Commission (NUC). The visit was aimed at assessing the institution's readiness to launch five specialized degree programmes.

The proposed courses—Pharmacology, Physiology, Anatomy, Public Health, and Artificial Intelligence (AI)—reflect the university’s strategic focus on health sciences and emerging technologies.

Welcoming the delegation at the Council Chamber, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Oduwole, emphasized the university’s dedication to global academic standards. A standout highlight of the briefing was the university’s proactive approach to digital literacy.

Prof. Oduwole revealed that, following a directive from the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Olutoyin Okeowo, all ACU students will be required to acquire basic knowledge of Artificial Intelligence. “We are aligning our curriculum with global best practices to ensure our students remain competitive in a tech-driven world,” she stated.

The NUC delegation, led by David Ejeh, conducted a thorough evaluation of the university's infrastructure, academic resources, and faculty personnel. Ejeh noted that the exercise is designed to ensure that the proposed programmes meet the stringent benchmarks required for a high-quality learning experience.

The Vice-Chancellor was supported by top management officials, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Admin), Prof. Olukayode Binuyo; the Registrar, Dr. Bode Olofinmuagun; and the Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Bolanle Ibojo.

With this verification exercise, ACU is poised to strengthen its status as a premier institution for health and technology education in Nigeria, ensuring that new departments are well-equipped for an immediate and successful take-off.
