In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nse U. Essien, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. OtoAbasi Akpan, welcomed the staff, students, and officials from the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) to Akwa Ibom State University. He highlighted SIWES' purpose in narrowing the theory-practice gap in Nigeria's higher institutions, emphasising exposure to industrial work methods and equipment handling techniques not commonly available in schools.
Prof. OtoAbasi Akpan urged students to uphold high moral standards as ambassadors of the University, and demonstrate commitment to the programme. He reminded them to align with the University's vision and mission statements to maintain its reputation. He also encouraged them to view SIWES as an opportunity to acquire essential skills for their future careers, stating that "SIWES is the catalyst for hands-on experience and national development."

In his address, the Acting Director of SIWES, AKSU, Dr. Godwin J. Udo, commended the students for their dedication to academic pursuits. He stressed the importance of following instructions as a key to success in the programme, noting that their seriousness would determine their future excellence. Dr. Udo urged the students to conduct themselves orderly throughout the programme and uphold the University's image, given that the industrial training spans six months and carries six credit units.
During the orientation, the Area Manager of Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Uyo office, represented by the Head of Training, Mr. Ibemenem, stressed on adherence to instructions, describing ITF as a rewarding journey that, if taken seriously, can lead to remarkable achievements. He highlighted the necessity of monitoring and evaluation to achieve goals and emphasised the value of skills alongside certificates for career advancement.

The programme included instructions and presentations by ITF Officials, followed by interactive and answer sessions.
Attendees from SIWES were: Officer, Mrs. Esther King and Accountant, Mr. Oliver Ebi. Participants from AKSU were: Faculty and Departmental SIWES Coordinators; representatives from the Directorate of Information, Public Relations, and Protocol.
