AKSU Senate Approves Promotion of Four Professors, Three Associate Professors
The Senate of Akwa Ibom State University has approved the promotion of seven academic staff members to the ranks of Professor and Associate Professor as part of its ongoing commitment to academic excellence and institutional development.

The promotions were announced during the university’s 120th Senate Meeting held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the Senate Chambers, Main Campus, Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.
According to the university management, four senior academics were elevated to the rank of Professor. They include Prof. Aniefiok E. Ite of the Department of Chemistry, who also serves as Deputy Director of Academic Planning and Acting Director of the Career Services Centre.
Others promoted to the professorial cadre are Prof. Unwana Ekpe from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering; Prof. Aniebiet Etuk, Acting Director of the Centre for General Studies and staff of the Department of Marketing; and Prof. Ololade M. Olatunji, who currently serves as Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.

The Senate also approved the promotion of three academics to the rank of Associate Professor.
They include Dr. Godwin Ekong, Acting Director of the Centre for Automotive Training, Transport and Logistics; Dr. Promise Etim, Acting Director of Mutual Partnership and University Development and Acting Head of the Department of Agricultural Engineering; and Dr. Anietie Ekott from the Department of Geology.
The university community congratulated the newly promoted scholars, describing the elevation as recognition of their academic contributions, research output, leadership, and commitment to institutional growth.
University officials noted that the promotions reflect AKSU’s sustained emphasis on merit, scholarship, and the strengthening of its academic workforce.
