Akwa Ibom State Government Donates Land for Federal College of Education

In a significant move to bolster education, the Akwa Ibom State government has donated land for the establishment of the Federal College of Education, Ididep, situated in the Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area. The state governor, Pastor Umo Eno, presented the land documents, including the Certificate of Occupancy and Survey Plan, to the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, signifying the symbolic handover of the land to the federal government.

Governor Eno, represented by his deputy, Akon Eyakenyi, emphasized that the N95 million investment in the certificate of occupancy reflects the state's commitment to securing the education of Akwa Ibom children and Nigerians at large. He highlighted the pivotal role of education in addressing challenges such as ignorance, poverty, unemployment, and insecurity in the country.

The Federal College of Education Ididep holds a special place for the state government, as it is expected to play a vital role in training human capital for both the state and the nation. Governor Eno commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the establishment of the institution, emphasizing the importance of colleges of education in training teachers specifically for basic education.

Prof. Tahir Mamman, the Minister of Education, expressed gratitude for the state government's seamless donation of land, assuring the people of Akwa Ibom that work on the institution would commence promptly. He underscored the federal government's commitment to addressing the shortage of quality teachers by establishing colleges of education across the country.

Political stakeholder Sen. Ita Enang acknowledged the fulfillment of President Tinubu's campaign promise to develop education, emphasizing collaboration between political parties for the benefit of the people. The Provost of the College, Dr. Edem Ntuk, called on the federal government to facilitate waivers for recruitment and provide necessary infrastructure for the institution's immediate takeover.

The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, and the minister assured that steps for the commencement of the project would be taken without delay, appreciating the strategic location of the donated land.
