On October 20, 2023, the principal and vice principal administered over 130 strokes of the cane to the student due to his absence from school.

The Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority (KSSQAA) has swiftly responded to this horrific event by ordering the immediate closure of the school as investigations unfold.

Eyewitnesses at the school have recounted the harrowing details of the incident. Marwanu Nuhu Sambo was initially brought to the assembly ground, where the vice principal subjected him to a severe caning. The punishment didn't end there; he was then taken to the principal's office, where the principal, vice principal, and another staff member named Musa continued the brutal assault.

The students who witnessed this incident described it as excessive and violent, with the vice principal even striking the student repeatedly on the head.

Dr. Usman Abubakar Zaria, the Director-General of KSSQAA, has expressed deep concern over this tragic event. The KSSQAA conducted a thorough investigation, engaging with the bereaved family and interviewing the victim's schoolmates. They also visited the Divisional Police Headquarters in Zaria, where the principal and vice principal were in custody. The victim's death was officially confirmed at Hajiya Gambo Sawaba General Hospital in Zaria.
