The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, was among other prominent Nigerians who gathered in Abuja on Friday, September 22, 2023, at a famous Wuse II, Abuja, Muslims worship centre, the Annur Mosque.

Reason: To witness the wedding of the daughter of the immediate past chairman of the Federal University of Lafia Governing Council, Emeritus Professor Munzali Jibril.

The daughter, a medical doctor, is called Ihsan Munzali Jibril and her groom’s name is Dr Mustapha Bittaye.

Speaking shortly after the wedding was announced and prayers for the wedded couple’s harmonious marriage were said, Abdul Rahman said that the essence of marriage “is to procreate but that cannot happen successfully in a family that does not know peace and harmony.”

The vice-chancellor said that marriage was more than a formal declaration of love and commitment between two people, adding that the strength of any nation depends upon the strength of its families.

Highlighting the saying that family is the foundation on which a country’s superstructure is erected, Abdul Rahman enjoined the couple to form an unbreakable marriage bond.

He said that “Allah is involved in the entire process of marriage, making it a sacred agreement that is supposed to last for as long as the married persons are alive.

However, Abdul Rahman noted that when two people live together as husband and wife, they must find flaws and weaknesses in each other, sometimes very quickly, advising: “If someone feels that the other person is doing wrong, he or she should say so politely with a view to solving problems.”

In his thank you speech, the father of the bride, Professor Jibril, prayed for the success of the marriage and everyone’s safe return to their home.

He expressed his gratitude to all who have attended the ceremony, saying: “I thank all of you for coming to this place to witness the wedding of our daughter.”

Those who attended the wedding ceremony along with the vice-chancellor included the deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Ali Is'haq Shugaba, Registrar, Nuradeen Abdu, Librarian, Professor Abiodun Iyoro, Head of Department of Business Administration, Jibrin Agabi, and Bashir Ozomata.
